The Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry syllabus enables learners to understand the technological world in which they live, and take an informed interest in science and scientific developments. Learners gain an understanding of the basic principles of Chemistry through a mix of theoretical and practical studies. They also develop an understanding of the scientific skills essential for further study at Cambridge International A Level, skills which are useful in everyday life. As they progress, learners understand how science is studied and practised, and become aware that the results of scientific research can have both good and bad effects on individuals, communities and the environment. June is the final examination series in which syllabus will be included in UK performance tables. Find out more about Resource Plus, a collection of additional teaching and learning resources which have recently been launched to support the delivery of key topics and skills in Cambridge IGCSE Chemistry.
A diverse view of science to catalyse change
The Rosalind Franklin Institute is a new national Research Centre, funded by the UK government through UK Research and Innovation, dedicated to bringing about transformative changes in life science through interdisciplinary research and technology. As a PDRA specialising in chemical biology you will be developing approaches for using and exploiting controlled modification of proteins and other biomolecules through biochemical and chemical means.
Tools will also be developed for enrichment of sub-populations of cellular proteomes and to probe mechanistic questions. This will be augmented by apply novel methods in chemical biology including use of unnatural residues that will allow precise in vitro , in cellulo and in vivo interrogation. You will also help maintain corresponding laboratory environments and aid proteomic mass spectrometry and separations method development, sample preparation and skills teaching as part of dedicated teams focused on mechanistic proteomics and chemical biology.
Skip to main content. Do you have exceptional skills in enabling students from diverse backgrounds to develop their capability for successful university-level study? Are you able to demonstrate an aptitude for using creative pedagogy and digital technologies to support scientific academic development? The Lifelong Learning Centre LLC works with mature and part-time undergraduate and foundation-year learners across the University, especially where this enables participation of people from groups that are under-represented in higher education.
The science foundation year programmes provide students with a stimulating and supportive environment in which to acquire knowledge and skills for progression to a range of science degrees across the University. They reflect a strong emphasis on widening participation, both for adult and younger students, and also make provision for those who wish to pursue a science degree but lack prerequisite subjects at A level.
